Mars

As soon as you find out, as soon as you hear

That there is life up on Mars, that there is more out there

I'll catch a plane, or I'll walk there

I would fill all your jars with honey

I'd carry bees into the new country

And I would buy you water in some arbitrary, odd number

As soon as they find out, as soon as they hear

That there is so much more than we know

That there is so much more to fear

Oh, I'll catch a plane, or I will walk there

Stranger

They couldn’t worry about kindness

Nobody around here’s got time for that

Four whole walls and a city block away

And I don’t deserve, these four walls

This ball and chain – is that what its called, stranger?

Is there a TV runnin upstairs, or is it more so a ghost

Did someone say that it gets better?

That hasn’t happened in a while

I can’t think of anything real - except for maybe, “I am tired”

I know I don’t have a voice

And I am this pawn, I don’t own my time

You can have it all, cause that’s what you like

This ball and chain, this back and forth, stranger

Candy Rain

Go on, give a call home - you’re scared it shouldn’t feel like this

In your bedroom in the daytime, under dark black candle lit

Hey, hey, twirl around, covered eyes

Swingin far and wide in your skies

Candy rain, drippin down, by our feet there on the ground

Come on, where’d it all go? - you said it shouldn’t be like this

From a phone call on a payphone in a bright red summer fit

Hey, hey, I’m around wide eyes,

Spinning far and wide in your skies

Candy rain, drippin down, Candy rain there on the ground

By our feet there on the ground

Hey, hey, is it all gone? Is there something you came for, something you wish

In the night time, in the quiet – in the dark black candle lit

Hey, hey, twirl around, wide eyes

Spinnin’ wide and far in your skies

Candy rain, drippin down

Candy rain, there on the ground

Candy rain, drippin down

By our feet there on the ground

Less Than Nothing

All the black cats in black hats in this room

Two hundred million dollar spoon

And we raise ours to take what is owed

To see what is left, and to leave the rest

Now we bow our heads to pray

For all the pills we’re built to spill

And all the words we’ll never say

Cause god forbid, yeah, god forbid

There is something in his room

A ghost of someone still in bloom

The TV’s on; he talks to me

He says he will never leave

He says he will never leave

Is it too late to cash it in?

Let me buy you one more

And tomorrow we will think

Tomorrow we will think

Is it too late to cash it in?

Let me buy you one more

And tomorrow we will think, tomorrow we will think

My guess is that you are left with nothing, with nothing

And my guess is you are left with nothing, with nothing

When you’re left with less than nothing

When you’re left with less than nothing

When you’re left with less than nothing up our sleeve

Problem

Sometimes I miss who I thought you were

In the middle of the day, at the end of spring

In the middle of my room, the things you’d say

Still lay in a pile right where we left it anyway

I’ll tell you the problem with all this space

Oh how it reminds me of my best friend

Who punctuates the things I say

Is there anyone else around?

Is there anyone else in here?

You might catch me in the winter cause my frozen right into the ground

You might catch me in the summer when the rains come down

Did it get too hard for you to just sit there

I don’t want to walk out, I would rather just stay this way

You might catch me in the winter cause my frozen right into the ground

You might catch me in the summer when the rains come down

War

The cool rain pulls me to remember that you can’t close your eyes

Or shut your mouth forever

Just like you can’t stay dry from a sky that decides to break around you now

Is he a friend or is he a thief?

Are you a friend or are you a fool?

You ask yourself to remind yourself:

Are you a friend or are you a fool?

You jot it down, you draw the lines

In your mind when those songs keep playin

While no one is ever singing along

Is he a friend or is he a thief?

Are you a friend or are you a fool?

You ask yourself to remind yourself

Are you a friend or are you a fool?

The moon wanes closer to December and daylight sleeps just fine

Curtains draw, it’s winter

Of course, he never rides light and the moon and stars seem to steer in a random flight

I’m no better

Is this the last time I will see the moon?
Is this the last time I will see the dawn?

You ask yourself to remind yourself:

Are you a friend or are you a fool?

Momma

Wake up with the sun and we don’t know why

The weight of expanse, the force of the fall

We fell into the arms of the black sky

Oh momma, don’t apologize for taking your sweet time

And momma, don’t mock the sun they still haven’t told us we have won

Slow and steady highway rain instead runs down your face

Until something reminds you that you’re doing fine cause you’re able-bodied and breathing

Handshakes

If you don’t mind, I wish you’d stay - let them know that you’re okay

If I find a little rest, I’ll let you know - you’ll be impressed, you’d be impressed

The neighbors are calling, they’re asking about their lighters

They’re standing on our doorsteps, they’re banging on our windows

The holy fire, the carbon daze

The blinking lights, the pearly gates

You call my name and I heard you say

"The fire it burns, is that okay? Is that okay?"

The neighbors are calling, they’re asking about their lighters

They’re standing on our doorstep, and god knows we are in here
